Kim Behrendt-Poldner

Kim Poldner, born 1978,  is a Dutch global citizen currently residing in St. Gallen. She was co-founder of the first eco fashion store in The Netherlands and worked in various eco fashion projects around the world. In 2008 she launched Eco Fashion World.com, a comprehensive website on all things eco fashion. Aside from this social enterprise, she is an oikos PhD Fellow on the topic of entrepreneurship for social change at the University of St. Gallen. In this blog, she will keep you posted on developments in her research and in the eco fashion sphere.  

Lately I have been suffering from ethical anxiety: I doubt what effect my efforts to live green really have on the wider world. Maybe it is the winter and a cold that keeps on bugging me, but I need some reflection. What have I been doing lately that is supposed to make a positive contribution?

Whenever we have something that we are good at - something we care about - that experience and passion fundamentally changes the nature of our first impression. When we are outside our areas of expertise, our reactions remain shallow, they are hard to explain and easily disrupted. They aren't grounded in real understanding.

M.A. and I have several disagreements when it comes to his wardrobe but one is the biggest: fleece. Fleece is ugly, unflattering and not eco at all. At least, that's what I reckoned with my limited knowledge of how this material is produced.
